Guilded – Week 10 & 11

Guilded – Week 8 & 9

I’ll start this post out just like I did for the previous one; it’s been a very long two weeks. During this time, I’ve gotten confirmed word that my college is going online for the rest of the semester, and that my graduation/commencement will be held online. So, since I’m already home in a different state, I’m pretty much not going to be returning to my college, or Vermont in general, for the foreseeable future. That…sucks. Morale, work ethic, motivation, all of it is pretty low. But in good news, Guilded is moving along. And you’re here for that anyway so lets get into it.

In the past two weeks a decent amount has happened. The State of the Game presentations below display everything that was accomplished, but I’ll go over some of the big ones.

  • The characters are done! Every character model that we wanted in the game has been modeled, textured, and implemented. Fantastic work from our Art team for that, and I’m really happy with how it turned out.
  • Social Media was started. We now have a Facebook page and Twitter account (@GuildedGame) for us! This is being used to do Developer shoutouts, share news about the game, and other fun stuff.
  • We’re going to Steam! While we’re not on it officially, this week we will be submitting all the paperwork and fees to get our game on the Steam Store. This feels amazing to have, and I really hope that it will lend our game more credibility, if not views.
  • Designers have started to dive into balancing. This has been a long time coming, but we finally finished enough tasks that we can jump into the nitty gritty of the systems we’ve made and get everything feeling right. I personally haven’t done a ton of balancing, since I’m making the trailer for the game, but the discussion and other ideas that the design team have come up with are great.
  • Speaking of Designers, we are trying a new tutorial system! Instead of having a 7+ minute tutorial that explains everything to the player, we’re replacing a lot of the specific information with hover over text boxes. This way the player will be able to explore and find new things about the game without us needing to walk them through each and every case they might run into.
