Production 2 has finally started, and we hit the ground running! The format of the class is as follows (if I’m remembering it correctly):
Week 1: Prototype 1
Week 2: Prototype 2
Week 3: Prototype 3
Week 4-7: Further development of a prototype
Week 8: Mid-semester cuts and team reformatting
Week 9-15: Finish development of non-cut games
Some of the dates might be a week off, but that’s the general schedule. I’m also not doing this class all by myself! I’m in a team with 4 other people. My team is:
Producer: Michael-Paul Ho-Kang-You
Designer: Claire Yeash, Myself
Programmer: Kelly Herstine
Artist: Grace Magnant
For this first week of Production, we came up with three game ideas. You can read about them below:
Yeash_Phillips_ GameConcepts_Sprint1We decided to go with our Chameleon Game, which we named Change or Danger! From there I made a basic list of mechanics and rules that we wanted in the game. You can see the document below:
Phillips_RulesAndMechanics_Sprint1From there, Kelly, Claire, and I (although it was mostly Kelly) made the build. We were able to get almost all of our planned mechanics into the game, with the exception being the Chameleon’s tongue. Here are some screenshots of our build!
Next week I’ll have a new prototype to show off!
Overall, I’m pretty happy with this game idea, and I think it has a lot of promise, especially when we get going with the level design. Also, since Grace is an environment artist, this would be a great project for her!
