The Return of Grass Watering Simulator – Post 1

So time has come for me to start on my annual personal project. Granted, I’ve actually been working on it for a while now, but you’ll understand why later. This year, I’ve chosen to create the sequel to my wildly popular (not really) mobile simulator game, Grass Watering Simulator 2018! The game is named Grass Watering Simulator 2019, and this year, we’re going to VR! I’ve always wanted to work in VR and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to get started! Take a look at a teaser video I’ve posted below.

I’ve actually been “working” on this game for 5 weeks now. However, I had a lot of trouble getting VR set up for development in Unity, which is what I decided to make my game in. I ended up using an Asset Store pack, the Vive Import Utility, which has worked perfectly so far. I discovered this asset only this week, and from there I was able to throw together some of my old 2d assets, make an impromptu watering can, and make this teaser video!

While I want to keep the game play the same as of now, just for the sake of development, I have a few VR specific features I want to implement. I jotted my thoughts down on a notepad initially, but I put them here for reference.

– Reach up and drag sun down to end day (quick night cycle to show progression)
– Right hand is watering can (hold trigger to enable pouring, hold at an angle to actually pour)
– Watering will be represented by a circle filling up. This was players won’t accidentally water a patch of grass
– Upon a successful water, money will be subtracted from right above the pail in large font
– Left hand will be magnifying glass(?) Which will show the state of the grass and the tile outline of the surrounding grass tiles
– Loading into a level will have the house, fence, and other pop up (scale y from 0-1 for all objects). Going for cartoony feel
– There will be a HUD at eye level somewhere in the level which will show the day, total money, and other information shown in the app

I’m really excited to keep working on this, and I’m hoping that this becomes a great learning experience!
