So it’s the first week of summer, and to me, that means that it’s time to start a new project! After some thinking, I decided that I am going to make Laika, a game about the Russian space dog. Unfortunately, over this school year, my computer completely failed on me, and I lost all my previous work on the game. Granted, it wasn’t a lot, but I spent today remaking everything that I had done before (and backing up to an external).
Something that bothered me in my previous build was that the camera would stutter and the gravity for the planet was too weak. Back then, I didn’t have the time to really research why this was happening, so I had left it in. But restarting a project is both a blessing and a curse, and after watching a few videos, I got the gravity and camera movement working beautifully.
For this snapshot, I’m showing off:
- Movement around a circular planet
- Jumping
- Digging
- Climbing
Next time I post I will try to have object interaction, carrying objects, and a better jump.
